Lady in Green - New Years 2019

I’m on a flight on my way to bring in the New Year in Santo Domingo and I’m so excited I can barely type up this post. This past June I got to visit the motherland for an influencer trip with Curls. The trip was amazing, but at the end of the day it was a work trip so I didn’t get to enjoy the island the way I would’ve liked in the short 3 days I was there. Prior to June, I hadn’t visited the island since 2011 when my great-grandmother who was the matriarch of our family passed. She was truly the glue that held our large family together and I feel like after she passed everything crumbled so there was really no reason for me to go back.

Oddly enough, the Curls influencer trip left me thirsty to experience the island in a more profound way now that I’m a full grown adult and around November I found myself quenching my thirst by buying a flight to visit for two weeks.

You all know how much traveling fills me up and I have a strong feeling that this trip is going to be really monumental and life changing. I can just feel the buzz from all the magic that is about to take place! Remember my trip to Puerto Rico this year and how evertyhing unfolded for me when I showed up for 10 days with literally zero plans? Well, imagine how Dominican Republic will be!!

I’m looking forward to taking some much needed time off but most importantly I’m really excited to experience different parts of the island with Carolina as my guide and take it all in. I feel so incredibly lucky to have her at as a friend and I’m so honored to be able to make memories with her in this kind of way.

Also, all of my family lives here so getting to see them and catch up after so many years is going to be such a treat. My father passed when I was 5 and I’m at an age where all of a sudden I’m super curious about geting to know more about the him, the man he was, and his side of family. I’m hoping I can do that during this trip.

I really want to be present during my time on the island so you probably won’t be seeing me upload a ton on social how I usually do when I’m off traveling and on some new adventure. I’ll defintely be vlogging and capturing my time there and I promise to share it all when I get back. I just want to enjoy second of my trip. I planted a lot of seeds in 2018 and they will be blooming in 2019 which means that this upcoming year is going to be crazy busy for me. I want to fully enjoy the fact that I’m off for the first two weeks of the year and I want to make sure that I start my year feeling rested, fulfilled, and ready to embrace all the growth I’m going to experience this upcoming year.

Funny enough last year I shot a New Years look with Geraldine that featured a green dress with a faux fur. When we were shooting this outfit she joked and said that we should make this a tradition and I thought it was a great idea. Emerald green has slowly become an obsession of mine and I’ve incorporated the color a lot into my home and wardrobe this year. I looked up the significance of green and it stands for balance, harmony and growth. It renews and restores depleted energy. It’s the symbol of prosperity, freshness, and progress. We associate it with vitality, fresh growth, and wealth. Green is an emotionally positive color, giving us the ability to love and nurture ourselves and others unconditionally. It also colerates to the heart chakra.

If that’s a sign of what lies ahead for me in 2019 then I’m all in for the yearly green New Year dress tradition. This dress from Fashion to Figure made me feel like a goddess stepping into her power after realizing that what is meant for me will always find its way. Ugh the universe is so dope I swear!
