My Winter Routine for Dry Skin
This post was written in collaboration with Gillette Venus, but all opinions expressed are my own. Thank you so much for reading this post and for supporting the brands that make this blog possible!
For many of us, winter is one of the most dreaded times of the year. Shorter days, colder weather, lots and lots of layers... the list goes on. I personally loathe winters for one reason, and one reason only - DRY SKIN. Or should I say EXTRA DRY SKIN?
For as long as I could remember I've had dry skin. My skin is so dry that if I don't put body lotion or some type of body oil on within minutes of getting out of the shower I start to get a scaly alligator like texture all over my arms and legs. It's even worse when it comes to my face, which often feels like I took a vacuum hose and sucked up every ounce of moisture out of it.
I deal with dry skin most of the year, but winters are on a whole different level. Luckily, I have a pretty amazing skincare routine that has been my saving grace year after year!
My Winter Skincare Routine
Although I'm sharing my tips and tricks on dealing with dry skin during the cold winter months, please be advised that my entire routine is really an excuse to pamper myself at home and live my best life. Deep conditioning, under-eye patches, fresh ginger tea, aromatherapy, basically an entire mini-spa day. I mean what else is a girl supposed to do when its 7 degrees outside?
Step 1: SCRUB
Once a week I use a body scrub to exfoliate my body. This will instantly make your skin softer and better equipped to absorb moisture. It also feels very fancy and yo girl loves fancy! I love thick sugar scrubs the best.
Step 2: SHAVE
Honestly, I get so caught up washing and deep conditioning my curls that I forget to shave all the time when I'm in the shower and have to hop back in the tub to get my legs and armpits. If you're a curly girl you totally understand where I'm coming from! I know shaving in the winter sounds like a drag but I PROMISE it makes a huge difference. There is no better feeling than smooth skin! I literally feel like a brand new person when I shave my legs and armpits - LOL!
I've been using Venus Gillette for years (since I was in high school) because it makes shaving a breeze, especially if you have dry skin. They recently came out with the Venus Platinum Extra Smooth and this is exactly I've all been waiting for. The Venus Platinum Extra Smooth is a beautifully-designed razor with the brand’s first designed-for-women metal handle. I love how much control I have when I use this razor and the anti-slip texture really gives my clumsy hands a better grip in wet conditions.
It’s perfect for us Vecinas looking for a more premium design that can hold up against everyday wear and tear, and most importantly it creates the long-lasting smoothness we all desire. Also, the advanced blade technology provides 5 diamond-like coated blades that stay sharper during more shaves, for skin that feels extra-smooth. My favorite aspect is the 360˚ Ribbon of Moisture which completely surrounds blades and releases lubricants when activated by water for enhanced comfort, glide, and protection. This makes all the difference when you have dry skin and is the main reason why I love Gillette Venus! I personally don't even feel the need use shaving cream when I use Venus and I love that you can easily interchange cartridges. Just make sure your legs are really wet if you decide against the shaving cream. I typically use the Comfort Glide cartridges, but I love that extra smooth shave from the 5 diamond-like coated blades.
Step 3: MOISTURIZE
I always try to use a moisturizing soap bar to cleanse my skin and when I'm done I pat my skin dry with a nice fluffy towel and IMMEDIATELY apply a thick lotion or body cream. I always follow that up with a body oil to lock in the moisture. My absolute favorite part is gliding the product all over my super soft skin. Nothing beats a fresh shave and my legs are instantly silky smooth thanks to Venus Extra Smooth Platinum.
